إبراهيم

Ibrahim (Abraham)

Friend of Allah

Ulul Azm Messenger 69 Quran mentions
Era ibrahim
Main Surahs 2, 6, 14, 21, 37

Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) is one of the five greatest prophets (Ulul Azm) and is known as 'Khalilullah' - the Friend of Allah. He is the father of Prophets Ismail and Ishaq, and through them, the ancestor of many prophets including Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

Ibrahim was born in Babylon (modern-day Iraq) where people worshipped idols. From a young age, he questioned his people's beliefs and recognized the oneness of Allah through contemplation of the stars, moon, and sun.

He openly challenged idol worship, even destroying his people's idols to prove their powerlessness. For this, he was thrown into a fire by King Nimrod, but Allah made the fire cool and safe for him.

Ibrahim underwent many trials: leaving his homeland, leaving his wife Hajar and infant son Ismail in the desert of Makkah, and being commanded to sacrifice his son. He passed every test with complete submission to Allah.

He built the Kaaba in Makkah with his son Ismail and established the rituals of Hajj that Muslims perform to this day. Surah Ibrahim (Chapter 14) is named after him.
