Shuayb (Jethro)
Orator of the Prophets
Prophet Shuayb (peace be upon him) was sent to the people of Madyan (Midian), a trading community in northwest Arabia known for their dishonest business practices. He is often called 'the preacher of the prophets' for his eloquence.
Shuayb called his people to worship Allah alone and to deal justly in their business transactions. They were known for cheating in weights and measures. Despite his clear arguments and warnings, they rejected his message and threatened to stone him.
The people of Madyan were destroyed by a mighty earthquake (or a Day of Shadow according to some verses). Only Shuayb and the believers were saved. Shuayb is also believed to be the father-in-law of Prophet Musa, who married his daughter during his time in Madyan.
