Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (Sawm), prayer, reflection, and community.

  • Muslims fast from dawn until sunset
  • The Quran was first revealed in this month
  • Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power) occurs in the last ten nights

Eid Celebrations

Eid al-Fitr

The Festival of Breaking the Fast, celebrated at the end of Ramadan. Muslims give Zakat al-Fitr before the Eid prayer and celebrate with family and community.

Eid al-Adha

The Festival of Sacrifice, commemorating Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son. It coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage and involves the Qurbani (animal sacrifice).

Day of Ashura

The 10th day of Muharram. It is a significant day of remembrance in Islam, marking the day Prophet Musa (Moses) and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh.

Fasting on Ashura is recommended (Sunnah), and it is encouraged to also fast the day before (9th) or after (11th).
